paper feathers

After discovering Mark Montano’s post here, I decided to send some paper feathers to friends.

First, I cut them from white paper.

Then I decided to personalize them by painting them the recipient’s favorite color. Painting them was fun because the individual little cuts sucked paint up via capillary action and made them look even cooler.

Here they are all painted and dried.

It was at this stage that I had to figure out how to send them safely in the mail. My solution was to make custom sleeves from foamcore and black paper. Here are some in their sleeves.

I sealed them up with coordinating washi tape and tucked them into envelopes and from what I hear, they arrived safely. Huzzah!
