A Bartender’s Tale

January 23, 2014

I am in no way affiliated with Jack Daniels or Brooklyn Magazine but I wanted to share the animation contest that they’re having  because it is so great. It combines two of my favorite things, which are funny stories (told from the perspectives of 8 different bartenders) and animation!

These 8 great videos are in the running. The winning bartender will get to tour the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg, TN (WHAT ABOUT THE ANIMATORS?!).

“The Trouble With Pee Wee” featuring Jesse Sullivan, animated by Sam Ferri

“The Pride of Brother Paul” featuring Jeffery Yokum, animated by Andrew Zimbelman

“Fairytale of Brooklyn” featuring Mary Guiteras, animated by Danielle Ash (this one is even stop-motion!)

“Snowbunnies, Pirates, and Painters Oh My!” featuring Rusty James, animated by Erica Pérez

“The Regular” featuring Jan Bell, animated by Marina Gagarina

“The Puppy Always Knocks Twice” featuring Diane O’Debra, animated by Leah Shore

“The Third Man” featuring Selma Slebiak, animated by Jake Nelson

“Vince’s Birthday” featuring Danny Hastings, animated by Zack Williams

You can vote on which one you think should win by clicking here but be sure to get your opinion logged by January 29 because that’s the last day they’ll be taking votes before announcing the winner at an event in Williamsburg on January 30.

For more updates and silliness, you can also follow me on Facebook and Twitter.

stop-mo round up XII – Illy Vine posts

May 2, 2013

Today’s stop-motion round-up  is entirely videos created by my talented friends Andy and Anthony for Illy using the Vine app.

Are you guys on Vine? I joined the other night but haven’t posted anything yet. Unfortunately, WordPress doesn’t support Vine videos yet so you’ll have to click the images below to see the action.

Coffee #magic on the go

Don't you wish it could be this easy?

I got to watch the making of this next one.

How do you take your morning cup?

stop-motion at the oscars!

January 28, 2013

I’ve been informed that this PES piece is in the running!

Also, it is the sequel to Western Spaghetti.

He is one of my favorite animators. I love these videos and I hope he wins!

In other news, looky looky, I’ve added an improvement! Now you can see my 5 most recent tweets in the sidebar from the homepage (you won’t be able to see them if you came to this post via an email subscription) —->

Warning: Cat-lady content guaranteed.

stop-mo round up XI

January 12, 2013

This first video isn’t technically stop-motion, it’s timelapse, but it was so beautiful and simple that it inspired me to share it with you IMMEDIATELY.

The artist is Alice Ninni.

The infamous (and NUDE, consider yourself warned) Amanda Palmer.

Another illustrated music video.

The illustrated trailer for Looper.

Did you see Looper? What did you think?

Lastly, this interpretation of autism.

a little halloween mood

October 17, 2012

I’m reposting this little Halloween stop-motion I put together last year to help me get into the mood.

My Halloween party plans have been completely kiboshed by work, but I’m going to cozy up in the evenings with these giallo flicks to make up for it.

Blood and Black Lace

The House with Laughing Windows

The Girl Who Knew Too Much

Giallo movies are a sub-genre of Italian horror from the 1960’s. I adore them!

What are you doing?

stop-mo round up X

September 2, 2012

It’s that time again!
Here are my favorite stop motion animations from around the intarwebs. Sorry about the links, had a lot of unembeddable (I think I just invented that word) videos this time.

Prepare to have your pants impressed off. This video blew my mind.

Here’s one about a light bulb factory.

100 students, 3000 frames. A collaborative music video.

This animation made me hungry!

Zipcar’s animated instructions

Watch this surreal (and very dark) animation on a rainy afternoon.

stop-mo round up IX

July 10, 2012

It’s time for some more epic stop-motion!

First a new video by my friends Andrew Jive and Anthony Johnson.

A fun and funny music video by one of my favorite groups, Pomplamoose.

A video by French artist Denis Chapon that put this together at the rate of 12 drawings (or 1 second of animation) per day. I love the sketchy, unfinishedness of it.

An incredibly intricate and whimsical music video using paper sculpture.

And finally, a ‘making of’ video for the short Eagleman Stag. I LOVE getting to see how other people work behind the scenes.

stop-motion preview

July 4, 2012

Good news, everyone! Last night I shot a new stop-motion featuring the talented Sarah Klinger. Here are a few pics to pique your curiosity while it’s in post-production.

Subscribe on YouTube to be the first to see it!

At long last, I’m finally able to release my most recent stop-motion project!

stop-mo round up VII

February 17, 2012

I don’t know if I’m better dialed into the internet stop-motion community now or what, but I feel like this time I’ve collected enough links to stop-motion videos to be able to edit them down for your quality enjoyment.

Here’s a stop-motion that you’ll want to watch twice. Once for the stop-motion, and the second time to observe (QUICKLY!) everyone that helped make it happen.

This one is kind of long but there are so many clever details!

Here’s a video with a lot of wardrobe changes.

How to spell the Alphabet.

And two post-it stop motions by Bang Lao-Liu.

Also, some exciting news, I’ve got a brand new stop-motion on the way!
